Giving back to the communities wherein we work is an important part of every company’s social responsibility. When approached by the local community leaders and design professionals of Gonzales, LA (a suburb of Baton Rouge) that had volunteered their time to develop a handicapped accessible playground for children in the area, SBS was glad to jump onboard to coordinate all construction activities on the land donated by local government entities.
Designed as a pirate ship that had wrecked in a lagoon, the project consisted of construction of a main covered area that included accessible restrooms and sheltered play areas along with numerous outside playgrounds each providing separately themed activities for wheelchair restricted children as well and various activities for mentally challenged children all placed along the “blue lagoon” styled play areas. SBS was able to use its well-known Baton Rouge area presence to assist the community in obtaining favorable pricing from vendors, suppliers and subcontractors who collectively assisted in completing this very worthwhile community project. SBS donated all of its time and expenses associated with this community project.
Upon completion of the construction of the basic infrastructure, SBS also coordinated a Community Volunteer Day that allowed residents to volunteer their time to assemble the various pieces of playground equipment and celebrate the new addition to their community. All is all, a satisfying project for everyone involved.
