High visibility sites, especially like a project on a major Interstate Highway, require an innovative exterior design to attract attention from the tens of thousands of vehicles passing each day. Such was the case of New Braunfels Storage just outside of San Antonio, Texas. This 77,000 square foot facility featured cantilevered building canopies that enhanced the storefront and the office entry. The SBS design team incorporated vivid colors around the entire exterior and enhanced the primary highway view with a backlit penthouse over the second-floor display windows. Covered cross breezeways were utilized in the single-story buildings to provide an open feel while still allowing for shade on hot South Texas days. Working in a design-build environment provides the developer, architect, engineers and contractor with opportunities to collaborate together to create a unique facility. The end result for SBS and all involved was having the New Braunfels Storage facility featured in Inside Self-Storage magazine for advancements in facility design and creation of customer-alluring spaces.
