SBS Construction is proud to be a supporter of our U. S. Military personnel serving our Country abroad and at home. We have numerous veterans within our family and are always looking to add staff with recent military service in their background. There is a “We Support Our Troops” banner and an American Flag at all SBS project sites. So when we were given the opportunity to participate in the construction of the new Southeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery in Slidell, Louisiana SBS was proud to be part of a project dedicated to our Fallen Heroes.
Working in conjunction with the Federal Veterans Administration, the State of Louisiana, the Louisiana Department of Veterans Affairs and the Louisiana National Guard, SBS lead the way in conversion of a 75 acre site in St. Tammany Parish, Louisiana to a suitable final resting place for those that have served our Country. Converting South Louisiana land noted to have a very shallow water table into an area supporting approximately 2,600 below-ground, double-depth Lawn Crypts was a civil engineering and construction challenge. The project also included construction of 2 Columbarium Walls for above-ground internments and 275 below-ground burial locations. The Veterans Cemetery also includes a Scatter Garden; Carillion Tower; Committal Shelters and numerous gardens and sitting areas for families and friends visiting their loved ones.
The Cemetery operations are supported by Administration Buildings and several maintenance, equipment and supply buildings necessary to ensure proper care and maintenance of the extensive lawns, roads and gardens that run throughout the 75 acre site. The completion of the project was marked by a Dedication Ceremony hosted by SBS Construction followed by the first Internment Service of a local area Fallen Hero at the Southeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery. A sad yet proud moment for all involved.
