It is never the objective of a project to gain recognition from one’s peers, but that was the case with the Stone Oak project in San Antonio, Texas. Recognition by the national trade publication, Mini-Storage Messenger, as Facility of the Year for 2012 was a pleasant surprise for the entire SBS design/construction team. In addition to being the projects design-builder, SBS also developed the entire project from land acquisition through entitlements, design and ultimately to a turn-key construction project. Located in a highly-restricted area of San Antonio, SBS was instrumental in finding this site and coordinating all pre-development aspects of the project, including extensive work with the TCEQ (Texas Commission of Environmental Quality) as the site is located on an aquifer, a vital source of water for San Antonio. Challenging site conditions required the removal of almost 17 feet – more than 25,000 cubic yards – of limestone to prepare a level pad for construction. The facility’s overall aesthetic design features materials and colors that are prevalent in the Stone Oak community including native stones and colored stucco. Not only an award winning project, the facility has been highly successful and has exceeded all projections. A happy client; a happy SBS design team – seems like a recurring trend for SBS Construction.
