SBS Through the Years
1995
- July 19 – Select Building Systems, Inc. (“SBS”) Founded by Steve Schiffman, President and Dave Morgan, EXECUTIVE Vice President
- John Maywald, VP-Finance, hired as 1st Employee – begins 30 (and counting) years of service to SBS
- Days Inn Bishop Texas is our first Construction Project
1996
- Select Management Systems, Inc. (“SMS”) incorporated
- SMS manages national construction project for AAFES/Sprint installing fiber optic cable in military bases from New York to Hawaii
- SBS constructs 1st Self-Storage project in Dallas, Texas for private development group
1997
- SBS manages real estate development project with Joint Venture partners in San Antonio Metropolitan Area
1998
- Construction of 1st self-storage facility for national developer – Storage USA
1999
- SBS expands self-storage operations with national clients – Devon/Public Storage/Shurgard
2002
- Expands operation to Mississippi
2003
- SBS enters the metal building market by rebranding SMS to Superior Metal Services
2004
- SBS enters the Florida market providing construction management services overseeing conversion of multiple apartment complexes to Condominiums throughout the state
- Ted Culbreth, VP-Sales, joins SBS expanding its sales and marketing program and setting the groundwork for expanding our metal building operations
2005
- SBS constructs new Corporate Headquarters in Boerne, TX for its 10-year Anniversary
2006
- SBS enters the Florida market providing construction management services overseeing conversion of multiple apartment complexes to Condominiums throughout the state
- Ted Culbreth, VP-Sales, joins SBS expanding its sales and marketing program and setting the groundwork for expanding our metal building operations
2006
- SBS expands self-storage operations to Louisiana
- SBS completes construction of its first 100 self-storage facilities
2009
- SBS opens Louisiana Office further committing to expansion of operations to multi-states
2011
- Construction of St. Amant Middle School in Louisiana begins new relationship with Ascension Parish School Board and opens the way for future school projects
- SBS joins the Texas Self-Storage Sponsorship program for the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital in Galveston- makes first annual contribution
2012
- Construction of VA Cemetery in Slidell, LA is 1st of multiple projects for the Department of Veterans Affairs .. solidifies the SBS Commitment to our US military
- Honored as National Facility of the Year-Construction by the Mini Storage Messenger
- SBS constructs 1st Flex Space project with JV partner in San Antonio
2013
- Honored as National Facility of the Year – Overall winner by the Mini Storage Messenger
2014
- SBS donates services to construction of Kidz Kove park and playground for handicap children in Baton Rouge, LA
- Construction of new Ascension Parish Louisiana Government Complex highlights SBS versatility
- Larry Watts, VP-Construction, joins SBS enhancing our construction management capabilities and commitment to providing top quality customer service
- SBS reaches another milestone with its 200 self-storage facility
2015
- SBS celebrates 20 successful years in business
2017
- Constructs 1st Garage Condo project in Allen, Texas
- SBS joins the Soldiers Angels Network supporting our military troops around the globe; annual programs supported by SBS and SMS personnel include Adopt-A-Family Christmas program; Stockings for Soldiers and Warm Feet for Soldiers
2018
- Expands operations to Kansas
- Dave Morgan, Executive VP elected to serve to on the Board of Directors of the Texas Self-Storage Association … serves a total of 4 years
2020
- SBS and SMS Executive Committees formalize our Core Values solidifying our commitment to sound business, management and ethical practices
2022
- SBS forms joint venture to develop specialty designed Car Condo facilities with 1st project in San Antonio; future projects currently in design and predevelopment
- SBS continues its commitment to the self-storage industry successfully completing construction of its 350 facility
2024
- SBS selected TOP 100 Places to Work by San Antonio Express News
- Annual, cumulative corporate and employee contributions to the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital in Galveston top $150,000
2025
- SBS Finalizes Acquisition by BCT Capital, LLC, ushering in a New Era of Ownership and Executive Leadership, marking a significant milestone in the company’s evolution. This strategic move sets the stage for the next generation of leadership of SBS which is being assumed by Clyde Johnson, President and Brandon Raney, Executive Vice President, alongside Ted Culbreth, Larry Watts, and John Maywald. This experienced team will guide SBS into its next chapter, building on a strong foundation of operational excellence and long-term vision
